Seven Lakes High School Senior, Courtney

December 7, 2018

Courtney is a student at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. She aspires to be a flight nurse for Memorial Hermann’s Life Flight service, she is currently enrolled in an EMT-Basic program through her school district Miller Career and Technology Center. This program is the best of its kind at the high school level in the Houston area, the class comes equipped with a simulation ambulance, advanced training manikins, and amazing staff and teachers. Courtney has always dreamed of helping others and enjoys everything about emergency medicine. Being a part of this elite program has only made her decision to become a flight nurse more concrete. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, fishing, shopping, and researching emergency medicine. She is involved in many extracurriculars, many of which are health science related, like sports medicine and HOSA, and she has a part-time job at Texas’ favorite grocery store, H-E-B.

We started this senior session in the streets of her hometown, Houston, Texas. The first photos were taken in front of a local coffee bar, Boomtown Coffee. From there, we walked to several locations; along the way, we would stop to take action shots of Courtney crossing the road and even sitting next to the Houston Metro train tracks. Our next stop was the Harris County Courthouse; the brickwork around the stairs, and the stairs themselves, made for less busy backgrounds so we could make Courtney the focus of the photos. We continued to walk around and ended up under beautiful oak trees, which matched seamlessly with the deep green sweater dress she was wearing at the time.

Courtney brought one prop with her to represent her, her Littman Stethoscope. She picked this one item of everything because it represents what she does now and what she plans to do in her future. She casually wore her prop in a handful of the pictures, we also asked for her to use this tool so we could collect a set of action shots to show her family and friends a glimpse of her future. We wanted to take the focus off of her and onto her stethoscope because, to her, it represents much more than just a medical instrument. It represents dreams and goals. We successfully captured this in the last photo we took for the session.
